The goal Aquisition of basic knowledge about morphology, structure, physiological and antigenic characteristics of patogenic and non-patogenic microorganisms; their ecology, resistance to antibiotics; infection; immunological reactions of organisms to antigens of microorganisms, and microbiological and immunological diagnostic methods.
The outcome Outcome of the course: Students should know how to collect samples, how to determine morphology and structure of microorganisms in order to identify bacteria and fungi in native and stained preparations; they should know how to perform sterilization, how to inoculate culture media, to isolate microorganisms in pure cultures and to identify them on the basis of their cultural and biochemical properties; to examine their resistance to antibiotics, to know how to perform different serological reactions and read the results; to gain tissue culture, to know how to inoculate viruses into tissue culture and to recognize cytopathic effect, to know how to inoculate chicken embryos with different kinds of viruses, rickettsia and chlamydia, to stain preparations made from alantochorial and vitelus membranes, to prepare and stain preparations obtained from brain tissue infected with rabies virus in order to detect Negri bodies.
